🎠 What to do when you're just not 'feeling it!'...🎠

May 12, 2020

Not feeling it? Stuck in procrastination and despondency that makes you feel like maybe it would actually just be better to just sit on the couch, eating pizza and drinking wine, instead of getting up and getting on with it?!?

Well the first thing to getting out of you funk is to STOP!
STOP THINKING about it! Right now!

Sounds super contradictory and counter-intuitive I know, but the chances are that what got you to this point of "urgh" and procrastination was all that icky-circular thinking about it you've been doing. 🎠

Maybe you've been telling yourself off and beating yourself up about having not taken action on it recently, or that the action that you did take wasn't good enough. It might even be that somewhere down there un-detected right now is some residual or growing fear or guilt. And thinking about it in an 'urgh' frame of mind is basically giving your mind free-rein to grow and nurture all that grossness into something even bigger than it is now - right?

And I'm pretty sure we can all agree that that last thing you want to do is make overcoming this situation harder than it is already!

Here is a super top-secret of really motivated people (often they don't even know they have this ability)... it's the realisation that when we've been going round and round in circles for a while, and the situation seems to be getting murkier not clearer - they know that staying stuck in their head does nothing to get to clarity... you've got to get out of your head. 💪

Here's some ideas that I love to use to help me get over the 'really not feeling it', stuck-ness phase! 🔑

1️⃣ I go and hang out with someone (practicing safe social distancing at the moment of course!) who's loving what I'm avoiding!

This ONE is sooo powerful and sooo under-rated!

Going and basking in someone else's good juju while they are doing what you are avoiding is going to give you some clarity on why you ALSO love doing this (and if it doesn't, you may need to ask yourself some harder questions)!

It's going to give you back the perspective and passion for what you lost, and you may just give you the clarity of why you got into a funk in the first place.

Don't have any friends doing what your doing? Clinics, training DVD's and shows are full of the people you need! Failing that, there is always Heartland - hehe!

2️⃣ I talk about my funk and struggle with one of my mentors and teachers.

They are always able to help me get to the bottom of what 'disconnected' to trigger my mindset to stop seeking solutions and why I'm feeling stuck (we are never actually stuck, it's always a feeling and feelings can be liars!)...

It's important to remember that just like horses, we are really not meant to be an island... we need to talk, collaborate and connect with other like-minded souls to keep our minds open and stay the eternal student!👨‍🎓🍎

Spending solitary hours sweating and slaving on it on your own is awesome some-of-the-time and will lead to some major breakthroughs - but when it's not working you need to - collaborate, communicate and connect!

Think about all those amazing riders in training barns over in Europe, they are collaborating and cheering each other so much they are virtually tripping over each other all the time! And it's something that we can easily forget the incredible value of this constant collaboration and eyes on the ground here in the Southern Hemisphere.

Even if you just pick up the phone, do it! 🔑 Talking it through with someone you trust and respect is invaluable and will help you move yourself forward, I promise!

Ok, number 3 - chances are your going to hate this one...

3️⃣ Just get on with it!

Don't start back at the point that you got stuck... you need to go back a few steps and rebuild, go back an anchor something that you are really good at!

As Marie Forleo say's "clarity comes from engagement, not more thought"... so actually just getting out there and doing something (no matter how small) might just be the snowball you need to get on rolling!

Happy riding,
Stef x

 About Me

Hello, I'm Stef Winwood, and I love to help riders regain their riding confidence and ditch fear and nerves in the saddle - for good! As a rider, breeder, coach and ex 'nervous nelly' myself, I know how debilitating and frustrating fear and nerves can be, especially when they are robbing us of enjoying our pride and joy - our magnificent horses!

Ditching fear and nerves takes so much more than just hours in the saddle, it takes powerful mindset and strategy work off the horse to rebuild how you think and feel on your horse.
